More about the job:
Following previous text-based R&Ds at Derby Theatre and Lincoln Arts Centre, this R&D will explore how video (live and recorded), captions, sound and music can shape the direction of the production. Creative Access will be central, and we will be working with Creative Access Consultant Abi Turner throughout the 5 days.
The first 2 days will consist of the Video and Caption Designer and Sound Designer collaborating closely with the Director, Writer and Creative Access Consultant to explore bold and accessible approaches to the production. Actors who worked on the previous R&D will join us for the remaining 3 days.
The week will culminate in a script-in-hand sharing to invited industry on the afternoon of Friday 21st June. The sharing will include some of the practical ideas we have explored across the week.
About the play:
In a shattered world where water has become scarce, three people prepare for the imminent arrival of a fourth. As pressure mounts from others in their rural community, along with the strange allure of the nearby glass lake, minds unravel and morality is chipped away, uncovering a stark question they all must face: what will you do to survive?
Jacob Kay’s play ‘Glass’ was shortlisted for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting in 2019. This R&D has been funded by Arts Council England, following a seed commission from Derby Theatre.
